Pocket Guide: 3 Stars Hotels in Dresden
From the museums and art galleries in historic Dresden Altstadt to the cool independent shops and vibrant nightlife across the River Elbe in Nuestadt, Dresden promises something for everyone.
Stay in a 3 Star Hotel in Dresden
If you’re a first-time visitor to Dresden, head for the city’s historic centre. Despite being devastated by bombing during World War II, Dresden has been restored to its former glory and is now one of the most attractive cities in Germany.
Many three-star hotels including international brand names and independent hotels and guesthouses are in the streets around Neumarkt, Dresden’s main square. From here, the majority of Dresden's top attractions are within easy walking distance, including the Rococo-style Zwinger Palace and gardens, Dresden Castle, now an impressive museum complex, and the Baroque Frauenkirche, the Church of Our Lady, whose spire dominates the Dresden skyline.
Dresden's Top Shopping Districts
Altstadt is rather traditional, so for a different vibe, cross the Augustus Bridge to the Neustadt district. Known locally as the Baroque Quarter thanks to its ornate Baroque architecture, it’s also a great place for shopping.
Markthalle near Albertplatz, is the Dresden’s historic marketplace. With huge arched windows and iron staircases, it sells everything from regional specialities to wooden toys and leather bags. For quirky gifts and souvenirs, visit Kunsthofpassage on Görlitzer Strasse, a maze of alleyways and courtyards filled with independent shops, cafes and restaurants.
Dresden’s Dining and Bar Scene
Famous for its hearty cuisine and welcoming bars, Dresden is a city you won’t go hungry in. For more traditional Saxon restaurants, head to Altstadt, particularly Taschenberg and the surrounding streets, where you'll find rustic brew houses and 18th-century-themed restaurants offering roast suckling pig and hearty stews served under vaulted ceilings.
If you want to check out Dresden’s legendary nightlife – some of the best in Germany – head north across the bridge and outside the old city walls to Outer Neustadt and the bars around Alaunstrasse.
