What you can expect

  • Yellowstone Lake sits close to 8,000 feet of elevation making it the largest high alpine lake in North America and the second largest in the world! Carved out by volcanic eruptions and glaciation, this lake is about 410-420 feet deep. The volcanic activity causes small thermal features to pop up in and around the lake.
The West Thumb Geyser Basin is located on the shoreline of the western side of Yellowstone Lake. It has all four types of thermal features, one of the most densely packed basins, and the famous geyser, Fishing Cone Geyser. Paddling to the West Thumb offers a unique perspective on the basin, including thermal waterfalls that cannot be seen from shore.
Being such a large lake, this activity is a great way to escape the crowds while have moments of Zen. Small groups are a perfect way for people to ask questions, learn about our favourite birds, rocks and bear lore. This experience offers a way to truly take a deep breath, take a step back and connect with all the wonders of Yellowstone.
