What you can expect

Discover Xàtiva, the City of the Borgias

Two castles. Two Borgia popes. One unforgettable city.

High above the Valencian plains, discover Xàtiva, , one of the Valencian Community's most remarkable historic cities. Birthplace of the powerful Borgia family and home to one of Spain's most spectacular hilltop castles, Xàtiva offers more than 2,000 years of history, breathtaking views and an authentic medieval atmosphere.

Travel comfortably from Valencia and enjoy a full day exploring the city without feeling rushed. You'll have plenty of time to visit its iconic castle, discover its fascinating history, enjoy a relaxed lunch and wander through its charming old town at your own pace.

Your first stop is the magnificent Xàtiva Castle, an impressive fortress stretching across a mountain ridge. With your entrance ticket included, you'll explore its ancient walls, towers, gateways and defensive structures while enjoying spectacular panoramic views over the surrounding valleys. Along the way, your guide will bring centuries of history to life, from the Romans and Moors to medieval kings and the powerful Borgia family.

After visiting the castle, continue to the Museum of Fine Arts, where you'll discover the city's rich artistic heritage and learn more about the Borgia legacy. Here you'll also see one of Spain's most unusual historical curiosities: the famous upside-down portrait of King Philip V, displayed as a symbol of Xàtiva's remarkable past.

The experience continues with a guided walk through Xàtiva's historic centre, where medieval streets, elegant squares and centuries-old monuments reveal the city's unique character.

You'll then enjoy generous free time to have lunch at a local restaurant, browse artisan shops, relax with a coffee or simply soak up the authentic atmosphere before returning comfortably to Valencia.

  • On selected departure dates, this experience also includes a visit to the picturesque medieval village of Bocairent before returning to Valencia. Please check the available dates when booking, as this extended itinerary is only offered on specific departures.

Whether you're passionate about history, architecture, photography or simply looking to experience an authentic side of Spain beyond the usual tourist routes, this small-group experience offers the perfect opportunity to discover one of the Valencian Community's greatest hidden treasures.
