What you can expect

Trincomalee is quickly becoming a renowned destination for whale watching. Blue whales, along with some sperm whales, can often be seen about six to eight nautical miles east of Trincomalee, roughly a 30-minute boat ride away. Spinner dolphins are also frequently spotted.

Best Time to Visit:

  • Whales and Dolphins: Most sightings happen between March/April and August/September as whales migrate around the island.
  • Continuous Watching: Sri Lanka offers about ten months of whale and dolphin watching each year at various coastal points.
