Indulge in the Flavours of History: A Three-Culture Gastronomic Adventure

Join us, DOR TRAVEL, for a day trip that feeds both your soul and your appetite. Transylvania is a land where history and gastronomy are deeply intertwined, and this tour is designed to show you why. We will take you beyond the typical tourist paths to discover the authentic tastes of three distinct cultures that shaped our region: Romanian, Armenian, and Hungarian.

Step 1: The Soul of the Village (Romanian Heritage)
Our journey begins with a drive to the Bobâlna Plateau, a place of great historical significance where the 1437 peasant uprising took place. Amidst the rolling hills and fresh air, we will stop for our first culinary treat: authentic Romanian “plăcinte” (pies). Hand-made by locals, these sweet or savoury pies are the ultimate comfort food and a symbol of rural hospitality.

Step 2: The Baroque Charm of “Little Armenia” (Gherla)
Next, we head to Gherla, a town with a fascinating past as an Armenian stronghold. Here, you will experience a true rarity: the Armenian Hurut soup. This unique dish is made with a secret blend of fermented herbs and dairy, a tradition kept alive for centuries. After our meal, we’ll take a short walk through the town to admire the majestic Armenian-Catholic Cathedral and the baroque streets that give Gherla its special character.

Step 3: The King of Transylvanian Dishes (Hungarian Heritage)
As we return to Cluj-Napoca, we complete our culinary triangle with the most famous dish of the region: Hungarian goulash. Served in a traditional setting, this hearty stew of slow-cooked meat and paprika will show you why Hungarian flavours are indispensable to the Transylvanian identity.

This isn't just a food tour; it's a storey of coexistence, told through recipes passed down through generations. Book your seat with DOR TRAVEL and taste the real Transylvania!
