Discover a different side of Japan on a fully private guided day trip from Nagoya to Tokoname. With your own local guide and no other guests joining, explore charming pottery lanes, historic kilns, and cheerful lucky cats in a town where ceramic traditions remain part of everyday life.
Tokoname’s convenient location near Chubu Centrair International Airport also makes this tour an option for your arrival or departure day. You can travel directly from the airport to meet your guide in Tokoname, or head to the airport after the tour instead of returning to Nagoya. Please contact us in advance to arrange these options and discuss your flight schedule and luggage.
Meeting Time: 9:15 AM for the standard departure from Nagoya.
As we will take the train shortly after meeting, we recommend storing large luggage in the station lockers and using the bathroom before the tour begins. If you plan to join from or continue to the airport, please consult us about luggage arrangements before booking.
From Nagoya Station, travel by train and local bus to Tokoname, a town with more than 1,000 years of pottery history.
Our first stop is the INAX Live Museum, where engaging exhibits introduce you to ceramics, architecture, and design. Discover how Tokoname’s craftsmanship has shaped both its local identity and everyday life in Japan.
After visiting the museum, enjoy free time for lunch (meal cost not included). Look out for local restaurants serving dishes on Tokoname-made pottery—another way to experience the town’s ceramic culture.
You may also choose an optional Maneki-neko (Lucky Cat) painting experience. Decorate your own ceramic lucky cat with colourful pens and take home a one-of-a-kind souvenir. This activity is suitable for both adults and children. It can be requested after your tour booking is confirmed and is subject to availability. An additional fee applies.
Next, meet Tokonyan, Tokoname’s iconic giant beckoning cat. Discover more lucky cat statues around the area as your guide introduces you to the town’s tradition of producing these beloved symbols of good fortune.
Then explore the Tokoname Pottery Footpath, a scenic route winding past historic kilns, pottery-lined walls, traditional workshops, galleries, and cafés. Take time to appreciate the details, ask your guide questions, and capture your favourite views.
Our final stop is the Takita Family Residence, a beautifully preserved merchant house from the Edo period. Explore traditional Japanese architecture and discover the lifestyle of a wealthy shipping merchant’s family.
After a day exploring Tokoname’s history, craftsmanship, and local culture, return to Nagoya with your guide. If arranged in advance, you can finish your tour in Tokoname and continue to Chubu Centrair International Airport for your departing flight.
