What you can expect

I’m delighted to offer a unique tour that explores two remarkable destinations just 30–45 kilometres from Rome: Tivoli and Subiaco.

Our journey begins in Tivoli, an ancient town considered even older than Rome, which for centuries served as a retreat for Roman emperors thanks to its abundant water sources and beautiful landscapes.

In Tivoli, guests may choose to visit one of two extraordinary UNESCO sites:

• Villa Adriana, the vast imperial residence built by Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, once covering around 120 hectares. This impressive complex showcases innovative Roman architecture, sophisticated engineering, and includes a museum displaying remarkable ancient sculptures.

or

• Villa d’Este, a masterpiece of the Renaissance, famous for its spectacular terraced gardens and hundreds of elegant fountains that create one of the most beautiful water landscapes in Europe.

After visiting the villa, we will enjoy a relaxing lunch at a traditional local restaurant, allowing guests to experience the authentic flavours of the region.

In the afternoon, we continue to Subiaco to visit the historic Monastery of Saint Benedict, one of the most important monastic sites in Europe. Built around the sacred cave where Saint Benedict of Nursia lived as a hermit, the monastery is famous for its stunning medieval architecture and beautifully preserved frescoes, including rare depictions connected to Saint Francis of Assisi.

Subiaco also holds a special place in European history: it was here that the first printing press in Italy was established by Benedictine monks, helping preserve and spread ancient Greek and Roman texts. For this reason, the Benedictines are often considered guardians of Western culture.

The itinerary is flexible and tailored to each group. Depending on timing and availability, we may begin in either Tivoli or Subiaco. Guests who prefer to focus only on Tivoli may also choose a Tivoli-only experience.

Every detail will be arranged directly with you to ensure a comfortable, personalised, and memorable journey.
