Your 3-hour bike-tour starts at the iBikeBelgrade shop at the best location in the centre of Belgrade: right next to the bike-path along the Sava and Danube rivers, at the foot of the Belgrade fortress. You'll meet your guide here and we'll pick a bike most comfortable to you. You can also get some cold water, make a pit-stop at the toilet and leave any luggage you don’t want to carry with you. After a brief introduction and a short ride we arrive at our first stop, Kalemegdan Park at the Belgrade fortress. There’s enough history here to fill the entire 3 hours of the tour, but don’t worry, your guide will keep it interesting and fun . From here we get into the centre of the city where we visit some not-to-miss locations, because of its interesting history but also because you can remember them to visit later, on your night out in Belgrade.
Belgrade has beautiful parts, but just as many broken down buildings and places that at first don’t look interesting. But soon you will find out that even these places often have the most interesting hidden stories to tell. This tour talks about the history, but mainly to understand the Belgrade of today. The city is different than other capitals, as history is still very much in the make while its future is uncertain. There’s always protest going on and its recent past is still shaping daily life. Not so long ago it was the capital of a country that doesn’t exist anymore: Yugoslavia. The final blow was literally the NATO bombing of 1999. On your tour you will some of the bombed buildings and learn more about this war in the heart of Europe.
During our break and drink in a café in the Tasmajdan park you can ask more questions that you will have for sure, or just lean back and relax and see the Belgradians enjoy their afternoon in the park. Despite its history full with battles, wars and many different conquerors, Belgrade is a lively city and people love to live the good life. You’ll certainly notice that on the tour and your guide will provide you with the best insider tips of where to go and what to do during the rest of your stay. Be ready to fall in love with this special city.
Make sure to also check out our other bike-tours, across the river through New Belgrade or our specialist Architecture Tour, focusing on the brutalist architecture of socialist Yugoslavia. Or rent a bike or e-bike with us and explore the rest of the city by yourself. The tour ends at the iBikeBelgrade shop where you’re free to relax and get ready for further adventures.
