Discover one of the richest and most endangered biomes on the planet on an authentic hike through the Atlantic Forest, guided by a native resident of the region, a profound connoisseur of the Serra do Mar, and an experienced bird watcher. Far beyond a conventional trail, this activity is an invitation to see the forest with different eyes.
Along the route, we will hike through preserved stretches of the Atlantic Rainforest, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world and home to thousands of species of plants, mammals, amphibians and birds — many of them endemic, meaning they are found only here. At each stop, the guide shares knowledge about the dynamics of the forest, traditional uses of plants, local history, and the natural processes that have shaped this landscape over the centuries.
Bird watching is one of the major highlights of the experience. With careful listening and silent movement, we will have the opportunity to look for species typical of the Serra do Mar, learning basic identification techniques based on song, behaviour, and habitat. Even without prior experience, participants are invited to develop a new perspective on the sounds and movements of the forest.
One of the most interesting aspects of the trek is learning about the history of regeneration of part of this forest. Sections that today look like old forest have already undergone human intervention in the past — open areas, past occupations, and pressure on natural resources. Over the decades and through environmental protection actions, the vegetation has regained space, allowing the gradual return of the fauna and the reconstruction of ecological processes. Today, walking along these paths also means witnessing the resilience of the Mata Atlântica when it is given time and protection.
Ideal for nature lovers, birdwatchers, photographers, and travellers seeking a profound, peaceful experience connected to the local territory. It's not just a hike: it's an immersion in the forest guided by those who live in and know the Serra do Mar up close.
