What you can expect
Explore the famous lakes of the Lake District on this day tour that's packed with breath-taking natural scenery. With a guide, visit 10 of the most picturesque lakes in the region, rolling through spectacular mountains peaks lush valleys on the way.
Begin your drive out of Oxenholme and head into the heart of the Lake District. Cruise first around the shores of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake, and admire views of the rolling countryside outside your window as you drive to Rydal Water. This small lake, surrounded by low hills, sits between the villages of Ambleside and Grasmere—your next destination for its neighbouring lake of the same name. From Grasmere Lake, climb the steep road of Kirkstone Pass, emerging at the reservoir of Thirlmere. Admire views of the lake seated in the valley between rugged slopes before continuing on.
Travel through the picturesque country of Borrowdale Valley and pass Bassenthwaite Lake on your way to the mirror-like Buttermere Lake and Crummock Water. Later, in the town of Keswick, take a break for lunch on your own and visit Derwentwater, which is believed to be the last remaining native habitat of the vendace fish.
Before your tour comes to an end, also visit Ullswater—the Lake District's second largest lake—and Brothers Water, which sits in the shady basin of the Hartsop Valley. During a stop, venture on board a boat and get the chance to see the view from the water itself.
