National Taichung Theatre is a striking large-scale performing arts venue designed by renowned Japanese architect Toyo Ito, winner of the Pritzker Prize. During the tour, we’ll make a brief photo stop at the entrance to admire its distinctive architecture from the outside.

Miyahara is a historic red-brick building originally established in 1927 by Miyahara Takeo, a Japanese ophthalmologist. During the Japanese colonial period, it was one of the largest ophthalmology clinics in Taichung. Fortunately, Dawn Cake, a pastry company famous for its pineapple cakes, acquired the building and preserved its original red-brick walls and distinctive archways. We’ll also visit the Fourth Credit Union (Si-Sin), another historic building that has been creatively transformed into a modern destination while preserving its architectural charm. Once a functioning financial institution, it now offers a variety of delicious ice cream flavours, making it a popular spot for both history and dessert lovers.

Rainbow Village was created by former soldier Huang Yung-Fu, who began painting the houses in his settlement to save them from demolition. Over the years, his colourful artwork featuring birds, animals, people, and playful patterns spread across the remaining houses. The settlement once contained around 1,200 homes and has since become a colourful cultural landmark known as Rainbow Village.
