Description

Take a camel ride through the Palm Grove of Marrakech and surrounding Moroccan countryside, where you can explore traditional villages, tour green palm groves, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Kids and adults alike can enjoy a one-of-a-kind ride through the desert at sunset.

After getting picked up from your hotel, head to the northeast corner of the city and the oasis known as Palm Grove, which features a hundred thousand trees that provide welcome shade from the hot African sun. Meet your friendly camel, put on a traditional turban veil that protects against dusty winds, and then head out onto the soft sand.

Follow in the footsteps of historical caravans as you travel on board a lively and lumpy “ship of the desert.” Your camel guides you into the verdant grove and through the sparse grasslands and shifting sands of the Marrakech countryside. As the sun dips down in the sky, your hosts direct you into the perfect location to watch the golden orb sink below the fiery horizon. Stop for a break to sip on delicious Moroccan mint tea and eat local snacks. Then, ride your noble camel through the wild back to where you started, and then take a leisurely non-camel ride back to your hotel.

It wasn't a full 2 hour camel ride with ours being the already late first of two pickups so the sun was definitely heading down before we reached the camels. Once suitably attired we were off - just the four of us - at a gentle pace with some great photos taken by our camel driver! We returned to where we started after about an hour with the camel to some mint tea but no snacks.

Okay, so the camels have saddles and the ride is along a well worn path which goes past the sites of new villas being built. Our guide leading the camels doesn't speak English or French, I think most speak French. But it is still a beautiful experience. No matter how old you are or how widely travelled the sight of sunset through the palmiers from the top of a rocking camel is still magical.
