Begin your hike from the old town of Sorano, a small jewel of the hidden Maremma. Walk through its alleys before venturing into the forest underneath.

Then, venture into a trail to discover the lost city of Vitozza, also known as the Matera of Tuscany. This ancient town dates back to medieval history and was abandoned in the 1700s.

Explore the town, where people dug their houses inside the tuff rock since time immemorial and lived in it until the 18th century. Enter some of these houses and wander around the remnants of the old castles (Vitozza had 3) that overlook the town, to see how people used to live in such an incredible environment.
