Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park

Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park (Imjingak Peace Park) is a symbolic site located near the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), in Paju. Once we arrive at the park, you will have 30min free time for breakfast and coffee break since we depart early! To visit DMZ, we must stop by here to buy DMZ tickets! Only 3000 people are allowed to get in! After that, tour guide will bring you around and giving you some stories at some sites in the park FYI, It was built to commemorate the division of Korea and to promote peace and reunification. The park features important landmarks such as the Freedom Bridge, war memorials, and a steam locomotive damaged during the Korean War. Visitors can enjoy wide open spaces, art installations, and scenic views of the surrounding area, making it both a historical and relaxing place to visit.

Bridge of Freedom

The Bridge of Freedom is a historic bridge located at Imjingak, near the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). It was built at the end of the Korean War and used by prisoners of war (POWs) returning from North Korea to the South. For many, crossing this bridge symbolised their return to freedom—this is how the bridge got its name. Today, the bridge is no longer in use for crossing, but it remains an important historical landmark. It is surrounded by barbed wire fences covered with colourful ribbons and messages of hope, written by visitors wishing for peace and reunification. The Bridge of Freedom stands as a powerful symbol of the pain of division, as well as the hope for a unified Korea.

Mangbaedan

Mangbaedan is a memorial altar located at Imjingak, near the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). It was built for people who were separated from their families during the Korean War. Since many could not return to their hometowns in North Korea, they come to Mangbaedan to bow, pray, and honour their ancestors. The name “Mangbaedan” means “a place to bow while looking towards the north.” On special holidays like Lunar New Year and Chuseok, many visitors perform traditional rites here, expressing their longing for family reunification. Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of separation, remembrance, and hope for peace.

The Civilian Control Zone (CCZ) in Paju is a restricted area located just south of the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). It was established after the Korean War to ensure security near the border. Unlike the DMZ, civilians are allowed to live and work in this zone, but access is strictly controlled by the military. Visitors entering the CCZ must pass through checkpoints and are usually required to join authorised tours. Photography and movement can be limited depending on security rules. Interestingly, because human activity is restricted, the area has become an important ecological zone with well-preserved nature and wildlife. At the same time, it remains a powerful reminder of the ongoing division of Korea and the need for peace.

The DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) is a heavily guarded border that separates South Korea and North Korea. It was established after the Korean War ended in 1953. Despite its name, it is actually one of the most militarized borders in the world.

The Third Tunnel

The Third Tunnel of Aggression is a famous historical site located in Paju, near the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). It was secretly built by North Korea in the 1970s and discovered in 1978. The tunnel was designed as a military infiltration route, capable of moving up to 30,000 soldiers per hour into South Korea. The tunnel is about 1.6 km long, around 2 metres high and wide, and lies about 70 metres underground. After its discovery, South Korea blocked the tunnel with concrete barriers to prevent any possible invasion. Today, visitors can enter the tunnel as part of a guided DMZ tour. You can walk down a steep passage and explore part of the tunnel (about 250 metres), wearing a helmet because the ceiling is quite low. The Third Tunnel is a powerful reminder of the tension between North and South Korea, and it helps visitors better understand the history and reality of the Korean Peninsula.

Dora Observatory

Dora Observatory is a viewpoint located in Paju, near the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). From here, visitors can look directly into North Korea. On a clear day, you can see the city of Kaesong, the Kaesong Industrial Complex, and even North Korean villages through binoculars provided at the observatory. Gamaksan Suspension Bridge (Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge) is a scenic pedestrian bridge located on Gamaksan Mountain. After the bridge, you will stop by WAX museum of North Korea and JSA! It is one of the longest suspension bridges in Korea, stretching about 150 metres across a deep valley.
