Description

Journey into the southwest of Bavaria to see the most iconic palace in Germany and explore one of the country's idyllic mediaeval towns. This full-day tour shows you the grand Neuschwanstein Castle, perched high on an alpine mountain, and the village of Rothenberg in the highlands above the Tauber.

Your group sets out from Frankfurt in the morning for a drive that takes you almost to the Austrian border, where the majestic 19th-century façade of Neuschwanstein Castle stands amid the Alps. Within, the palace halls display the splendour of precious furniture, sumptuous appointments, and masterful craftsmanship.

During your time in the castle, learn the history of its origins and the ambitions of Ludwig II, the infamous Bavarian king. Don't miss the chance for a private stroll in the impressive scenery amid the spectacular surroundings.

Continue your journey with a ride along the Romantic Road to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the best-preserved mediaeval town in Germany, where you get a look even farther back in time. Take a stroll through the picturesque old lanes above the Tauber valley and marvel at the Church of St. Jakob, the half-timbered houses, the city gates, and the mighty Renaissance town hall before you depart for the return trip to Frankfurt.

A lovely experience seeing the castle. Only 40 minutes in Rothenburg. No shopping time but as the distance from Frankfurt is lengthy I can understand

Ivan, our tour guide, was rude and not helpful! For $350 per person we expected a knowledgeable guide. He dumped us in Rothenberg with no information. When we got to Neuswanstein Castle, he again dumped us half a mile from castle and told us we could pay 2€ to ride a bus up the mountain to castle! Really for $350? Then he didn’t return after castle tour. We waited over half an hour on the side of the road to be picked up. To end our already miserable ride, he drove 4.5 hours back to Frankfurt not once stopping for a bathroom or comfort break! Yikes! Finally, our “lunch” promised with tour was forgotten by Ivan. He caught us before we hiked half a mile up mountain and handed us a nasty sandwich of pickle and cheese and a hot bottle of water!!🤦‍♀️ Honestly with a different guide this would have been a better tour. Ivan was part of Secret Police in his home country, he needs to go back! Tour guide is not his thing!
