Embark on the ultimate experience offered by Ariège Évasion with the “Sensations” route, the longest route in the upper Ariège region! An epic 15-kilometer (9.3-mile) descent that combines all of our routes for maximum adrenaline and a wide variety of landscapes.
Your experience
The “Sensations” route connects Sinsat to the Mercus nautical base, with an estimated journey time of 3.5 hours. This is the most intense and comprehensive descent in the valley.
You'll set off amid a breathtaking high-mountain setting, at the foot of the Quié Cliffs in Sinsat. Forget about a leisurely warm-up phase: here, you dive straight into the action with challenging sections, including the famous “Tic Tac” rapid. You will need to manoeuvre your boat with precision through these playful and exhilarating currents. Given this abrupt start, prior canoeing experience is highly recommended to fully enjoy the activity!
As you make your way downstream, you will pass through the town of Tarascon-sur-Ariège and navigate a series of small rapids until the river calms down near Bompas. The final three kilometres of your adventure will take you across the calm and majestic waters of Lake Garrabet to Mercus. A striking contrast and a welcome relaxing finish to give your arms a rest and admire the Pyrenean peaks! This activity is not guided: with your provided waterproof containers, you are free to stop on the riverbanks for a picnic surrounded by nature.
