Start your day the way locals in Shanghai actually do.
This relaxed breakfast experience takes place in the leafy streets of Jing’an, part of the former French Concession known for its iconic plane trees and area charm. Away from tourist crowds, this is where many young locals begin their mornings — with good coffee, simple food, and an unhurried pace.
Led by a guide who grew up in the area, you’ll explore a mix of everyday spots that reflect real Shanghai life. From a cosy speciality café loved by the local community to small, long-standing breakfast shops, each stop offers a glimpse into how the city truly wakes up.
This is not about rushing from place to place, but about slowing down and enjoying the moment — sitting, tasting, and experiencing the area as locals do.
During the experience, you’ll visit four carefully selected stops:
Begin with a cup of speciality coffee in a relaxed area café, where locals gather to ease into their day.
Then continue to a traditional breakfast spot to enjoy classic Shanghai dishes such as dumplings, xiaolongbao, or wontons — simple, comforting, and deeply rooted in the city’s food culture.
Next, try a seasonal local snack. In spring, this is often qingtuan, a soft green rice dumpling from a long-established shop. Outside of the season, it will be replaced with another traditional Shanghai speciality.
Finally, enjoy a local snack that you can take away or eat on the go.
All locations are carefully chosen for both authenticity and good hygiene standards. There will be time to sit, relax, and chat, making this experience feel more like spending a morning with a local friend than joining a typical tour.
This experience is ideal for travellers who:
- Prefer authentic local life over tourist attractions
- Enjoy slower, more meaningful travel moments
- Want a short but memorable introduction to Shanghai
- Are visiting on a tight schedule or stopover
This experience follows a fixed schedule. To ensure the best experience for all guests, please arrive on time, as late arrivals may not be accommodated.
Please also note that this experience is not suitable for vegetarians, as traditional Shanghai breakfast dishes are primarily meat-based. Non-coffee drink options are available.
