What you can expect

Begin with a scenic drive from Sarajevo towards Igman Mountain, one of the most important Olympic venues of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Sarajevo’s surrounding mountains and learn about the region’s rich natural and historical heritage.

Stop at the remains of the historic Hotel Igman, once one of Yugoslavia’s most prestigious mountain hotels and an important accommodation facility during the Winter Olympics. Today, its abandoned structure stands as a silent witness to both Olympic glory and the destruction brought by war.

Continue through the vast plateau of Veliko Polje, surrounded by dense pine forests and fresh mountain air. This area hosted Olympic cross-country skiing and biathlon events and remains one of the most beautiful natural areas on Igman Mountain.

Visit the famous abandoned Olympic Ski Jumps, one of the most iconic remnants of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Walk through history while enjoying spectacular views over the mountains and learning about the rise, fall, and legacy of Sarajevo’s Olympic dream.

Next, stop at the unique War Mosque, built during the Bosnian War as a place of prayer and refuge for soldiers defending Sarajevo. Explore the storey of the mosque and the strategic importance of Igman Mountain during the siege.

Following a beautiful mountain road, continue towards Bjelašnica, enjoying stunning landscapes, and panoramic viewpoints. Bjelašnica hosted the men’s Alpine Skiing competitions during the 1984 Winter Olympics.
