Have you ever stood beneath a sky bursting with stars or felt the deep silence of a snowy Arctic night?
Imagine stargazing under a moonlit sky, walking through a peaceful winter landscape, and maybe—even if we’re lucky—watching the Northern Lights dance above. This unforgettable experience connects you with the pure magic of Arctic nature.
Let’s see what the wilderness has planned for us:
A sky glittering with a thousand stars?
A glowing Northern Lights show?
Following animal tracks quietly in the snowy forest?
We’ll follow the Big Bear's Trail into the stunning Valtavaara nature reserve. At the summit, we’ll pause to take in the sweeping northern horizon and enjoy a warm cup of traditional wild berry juice. Your guide will share stories about the surrounding nature, northern life, and the myths and science behind the stars and the Aurora Borealis.
You can also come directly to the meeting point:
We start at the Ruka Valley, Saarua car park info sign (Ahon Jussintie 7), where you’ll receive your snowshoes. You can reach the starting point by ski bus or gondola lift too.
No Experience Needed:
Your guide will introduce the basics of snowshoeing—perfect for beginners. If you can comfortably walk a few kilometres in winter shoes on hilly terrain, you’re ready!
A Real Night-Sky Adventure:
Hills and fells are the best places for stargazing and northern lights spotting. That’s why this tour includes some uphills and downhills. If you’d prefer an easier climb or a shorter tour, check out our other night-sky experience.
What You'll Need:
Dress warmly in proper winter clothing and bring a moderate level of fitness—and a curious, adventurous spirit.
Your guide will tailor the route to the group, covering 2–6 km. If the Northern Lights decide to put on a truly unforgettable show, the tour may take a little longer.
