Experience the breathtaking winter landscapes of Riisitunturi National Park on a guided day trip from Rovaniemi. Known for its magical snow-covered “tykky” trees and wide Arctic views, Riisitunturi is one of the most photographed winter destinations in Finland.
This small-group adventure is guided by Timo Tapaninen, a native Laplander originally from Posio — the municipality where Riisitunturi National Park is located. On clear days from the top of the fell, Timo can even point out the direction of his childhood home.
During the journey, you’ll hear stories about life in Lapland, the Arctic environment and growing up in the region. This local knowledge turns the trip into more than just a hike — it becomes a deeper experience of the northern wilderness.
Your adventure begins with a comfortable drive from Rovaniemi towards Posio. As we approach the national park, the scenery gradually transforms into untouched Arctic wilderness with frozen lakes, endless forests and snow-covered hills.
Once we arrive, we begin a relaxed winter hike through the famous tykky forest, where heavy snow forms unique sculptures on the trees. The pace is comfortable, allowing plenty of time for photos, short breaks and enjoying the peaceful silence of Lapland’s nature.
At one of the scenic resting spots, we stop for a traditional Lappish campfire lunch, prepared over an open fire. Warm drinks and hot food create a cosy moment in the middle of the snowy wilderness. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.
Throughout the experience, professional photos are taken of you and your group, so you can fully enjoy the scenery without worrying about capturing the moment yourself. All edited images are delivered afterwards via a personal download link.
With a maximum group size of 6 guests, this tour offers a relaxed and personal atmosphere. The experience is also ideal for solo travellers, who often join the small group and enjoy meeting other travellers during the adventure.
This tour is perfect for travellers who want to explore one of Lapland’s most beautiful winter destinations with a knowledgeable local guide, while enjoying a safe and authentic Arctic nature experience.
