What you can expect

  • Explore the famous Las Pailas Trail at Rincón de la Vieja National Park, located just minutes from Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín. This fascinating hike showcases the incredible geothermal power of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

    Along the trail, you will discover steaming fumaroles, bubbling volcanic mud pots, sulphur vents, and other remarkable volcanic features that create one of the most unique landscapes in Costa Rica. The colourful mineral-rich soil, active geothermal activity, and lush tropical dry forest provide an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

    Accompanied by a bilingual naturalist guide, you will hike approximately 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) on the scenic Las Pailas loop trail. Along the way, you will learn about the park's volcanic activity, ecosystems, and diverse wildlife. The national park is home to more than 300 bird species as well as mammals such as white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, coatis, armadillos, and iguanas.

    This guided experience is ideal for guests looking to discover the natural wonders of Rincón de la Vieja National Park in a short yet enriching adventure. At the end of the hike, you will return to the starting point at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín.

    Please note: The entrance fee to Rincón de la Vieja National Park is not included in the tour price.
