Visit the historic Arkadi Monastery, a powerful monument of Crete’s resistance during the 1866 revolt.

Amari Valley & Saint Anthony Gorge
Continue the journey through the Amari Valley, with stunning views of Mount Psiloritis. Stop to enjoy traditional Cretan meze with a view of Psiloritis at the traditional village of Thronos. Then we will follow a beautiful scenic route to the impressive Gorge of Agios Antonios, where we will have time to relax and enjoy a traditional Greek coffee. Α short path through the Saint Anthony Gorge and discover the small chapel tucked among the rocks.
Surprise Local Stop.
Thronos is a picturesque village in the Amari province of Rethymno, built at an altitude of 540 metres on the foothills of Psiloritis, offering stunning views over the Amari Valley. It is known for the ancient city of Syvritos that once stood there, its Byzantine churches with wall frescoes (such as Panagia Throniotissa), and its traditional architecture.
In this village, you will enjoy authentic Cretan flavours along with our food, while taking in the view of Crete’s highest mountain, Psiloritis. The menu includes: Dakos (Cretan salad), fried potatoes, fava, dolmadakia, tzatziki, pork with wine, and a traditional Cretan recipe: chondros with potatoes and courgette. Wine (500 ml per 4 people) and water will be served. The food will be served on plates for 4 people.
