What you can expect

Today we will travel back in time, walking the streets of the historic centre of Puno and its most popular attractions. The Independence Arch will welcome us, built in honour of the martyrs who fought for the independence of Peru in the Battles of Junín and Ayacucho. Religion played an important role during the colonial era, and as an example of this are the churches of San Juan, which stands out for its Gothic style; and the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Candelaria, patron saint of Puno and whose festival is one of the largest in South America. We will also visit the San Carlos School, founded by Simón Bolivar in 1825 and which maintains its original architecture to this day. The Minor Basilica of the Cathedral never ceases to surprise with its baroque style, as well as the natural viewpoint located on the Huajsapata hill, a place of recreation for the locals. The unusual touch of this tour will be the visit to the Laykakota market, popularly known as the witches market, as it is one of the main places for marketing supplies for ancestral rituals.
