Our day continues to the German side of Lake Constance, to the spectacular island city of Lindau. This charming Bavarian town offers stunning lakeside views and a unique mix of history and beauty. One of its most iconic landmarks is the Lindau Lighthouse, the southernmost lighthouse in Germany. Completed in 1856, it stands proudly at the harbour entrance alongside the famous Bavarian Lion statue. From the lighthouse’s observation deck, visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the lake, the Alps, and the tri-border region of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Our next destination is the enchanting town of Meersburg, located on the northern shore of Lake Constance. After a short boat trip across Lake Constance, we arrive at the historic and picturesque town of Stein am Rhein. This lively Swiss gem is known for its beautifully preserved medieval old town, with colourful frescoed buildings and charming streets. Among its highlights is the Monastery of St. Georgen, one of the best-preserved medieval monastic complexes in Europe. You can also visit the Lindwurm Museum, which offers a glimpse into 19th-century bourgeois and rural life. Above the town sits the impressive Hohenklingen Castle, built in 1225, offering panoramic views and a deep dive into the region’s colourful past. Stein am Rhein is also home to the oldest house of worship in the Canton of Schaffhausen—St. John the Baptist Church, located amid remnants of the Roman fortress Tasgetium, dating back to the 3rd century A.D. This town is a true blend of history, beauty, and culture, perfect for a relaxing and enriching visit.
