Description

Join your guide and explore Riga's massive Central Market and the UNESCO-listed city centre. Enjoy convenient hotel pick-up and gaze at the marvels of the Art Nouveau district – the biggest collection of Art Nouveau in the world, featuring more than 750 buildings with distinct façades and rich decoration.

After a hassle-free pick-up at your hotel, follow your guide and stroll through the Art Nouveau district. Construction started between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, but its most famous buildings are wonderful examples of Jugendstil or Art Nouveau, which was characteristic of the inter-war period.

Riga features 2 main types of Art Nouveau architecture – Rationalist-perpendicular, with vertical lines along many floors, and National-Romanticism, incorporating traditional architecture and natural materials. The UNESCO-listed city centre covers 1,173 acres (475 ha) in the historical heart of Riga and neighbouring districts on the bank of the Daugava, including most of the Art Nouveau district.

Explore the Riga Central Market, the largest market in the Baltic States and one of the biggest markets in Europe. Inaugurated in 1930, its 5 pavilions were originally designed to be Zeppelin hangars and were eventually converted into a market. Located in the centre of Riga and constructed in the Art Nouveau style, it was the largest construction project in pre-war Latvia.
