Crete isn’t just beautiful by day — it’s also stunning by night! Join us for an evening tour where we'll look up into the sky rather than out over the water.
This Crete tour features stargazing with our personal astronomer, who will guide you in spotting constellations and the Milky Way through a telescope and with the naked eye. No prior knowledge is needed; this tour is perfect for everyone from beginners to experienced stargazers.
We'll pick you up just after sunset from your accommodation and drive to a family-owned award-winning winery in the Apokoronas region.
Upon arrival, we’ll tour the winery's courtyard, botanical garden, and the production and storage areas. Learn the secrets of wine production and bottling, then enjoy a tasting of four different wines accompanied by delicious Cretan rusks and olives from their garden.
With our astronomer, we'll delve into the mythology of the constellations linked to wine. From Dionysos to Ikarion and Stafylos, we'll explore the mythological threads connecting the summer sky. Weather permitting, we’ll observe planets like bright red Mars, Saturn – the lord of the rings, and other celestial wonders through a powerful telescope.
Our astronomer will explain what we’re seeing, how to recognise constellations, and how to read a sky map. You’ll learn about ancient cultures that incorporated stars into their mythologies and how they used the night sky to predict seasons.
Your intergalactic experience will conclude with a mouthwatering dinner under the stars, featuring authentic Cretan dishes (both meat and vegetarian options) made from locally farmed products, slow-cooked in pots as Cretans have done since antiquity. Enjoy a delicious dessert while discussing ancient Greek mythology and its connection to the sky above.
After dinner, we’ll lead you back to your hotel.
