From here, we admire the stunning Cathedral of Potosí, a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture built on the ruins of a colonial church. Nearby, the Royal Mint of Potosí (Casa de la Moneda) stands as a testament to the city’s global economic importance during colonial times. We’ll explore its façade and learn about the millions of coins minted here for the Spanish Empire.
As we walk through the narrow colonial streets, we stop by San Lorenzo Church, known for its intricate stone baroque façade and indigenous baroque style—a powerful blend of European and Andean artistic traditions. From the outside, we reflect on how religion, power, and resistance were expressed through architecture and symbolism.
