What you can expect

  • In the heart of the Klein Karoo, take a leisurely walk through Oudtshoorn’s historic centre, once called “Little Jerusalem,” and feel the stories of the past come alive. Wander along quiet streets lined with sandstone buildings from the 1860s, where generations built homes, businesses, and a thriving community. Pause to admire the extravagant ostrich feather palaces created during the famous Feather Boom, when fashionable plumes brought sudden wealth and remarkable architecture to this Karoo town.

Along the way, your guide shares colourful tales of ambition, hardship, and everyday life, painting a picture of how Oudtshoorn grew into a place of character and charm. It’s an easygoing, fascinating stroll that blends history, people, and beautiful old buildings — perfect for anyone wanting to connect with the soul of the Klein Karoo.

Meeting point: St Jude’s Anglican Church, 61 Baron van Reede Street.
    End point: Mrs Price.
