Experience Örö Fortress Island on a full-day adventure that brings together history, nature, and the serene beauty of the outer archipelago. Your journey begins in Kasnäs, where you board the boat for a 40-minute scenic crossing. As the vessel moves through the national park’s crystal-clear waters, you can unwind on deck and enjoy peaceful sea views, scattered skerries, and open horizons. This tranquil maritime approach sets the tone for the day ahead and offers a perfect introduction to the untouched purity of the archipelago’s nature.
Upon arrival at Örö, your visit begins with a 30-minute immersive audiovisual introduction, available in English, Swedish, German, or French. This engaging presentation offers an overview of the island’s military history, rare ecosystems, and key landmarks, highlighting why Örö is considered one of Finland’s most exceptional natural environments.
After the introduction, you will enjoy a 30-minute guided visit to the Obuhov coastal artillery casemate, a remarkable 12” artillery piece with an impressive and dramatic history.
Following the casemate visit, you can enjoy an island-style lunch, served either in the island restaurant or as a packed outdoor meal. This is a wonderful moment to slow down and appreciate Örö’s pure sea air, the scent of pine forests, and the warm, genuine hospitality for which the island is known.
Next, you join your guide for a 2-hour walking or cycling tour, depending on your preference and the season. Alternatively, you may replace the guided tour with a traditional Finnish sauna experience, or purchase the sauna separately as an additional option.
During the guided tour, you will follow the historic cobblestone cannon roads, explore the island’s 1920 fortifications, and discover scenic viewpoints and hidden military structures. Your guide will introduce you to the island’s exceptionally diverse flora, open coastal meadows, rare insects, and wide dune habitats, all shaped by the island’s long military history and careful conservation. Everywhere you look, you’ll encounter the unspoiled purity of Örö’s landscapes, where nature still thrives in its original state.
The remainder of your day includes approximately 3 hours of free time. Wander the scenic natural shores, photograph the windswept dunes, explore nature trails, visit viewpoints or café, or relax with a Finnish sauna experience. Simply enjoy the calm, clean air and unique atmosphere of this extraordinary island, where hospitality, history, and nature come together in perfect harmony.
Return transport from Kasnäs is included, making this a seamless and memorable full-day experience.
