Discover one of Europe's most complete 19th-century industrial districts on this captivating 2-3 hour private walking tour of Księży Młyn. Your expert guide will transport you to the golden age of Łódź's textile industry, revealing how one visionary entrepreneur created an entire self-sufficient town for his thousands of workers.

This isn't just another historic area – it's a living museum where you'll walk the same cobblestone streets that echoed with workers' footsteps 150 years ago. The district earned Poland's prestigious “Monument of History” status for its exceptional preservation.

Your guide introduces you to Karol Scheibler, the textile magnate who became the wealthiest industrialist in Congress Poland. Learn how this shrewd businessman built an empire dominating European cotton production and discover the strategies that made him richer than most aristocrats.

The tour begins in the workers' settlement. Your guide reveals what life was really like for the families living here – where they worked, how they were paid, and how the factory owner controlled every aspect of their existence.

Marvel at the monumental spinning mill – a fortress-like structure stretching over 200 metres that once housed cutting-edge textile machinery. This architectural masterpiece became the model for factory design across Europe.

Walk past the fire station with its original carriage doors and alarm bell still intact. See the factory school, hospital, and company stores.

Discover the railway siding where cotton arrived and finished textiles departed for European markets.

The tour includes Źródliska Park, Łódź's oldest green space and integral to Scheibler's vision.

Visit Herbst Palace (optional entry) – the stunning mansion Scheibler built as a wedding gift for his daughter and son-in-law Edward Herbst. Your guide reveals family stories and explains how the industrialist elite lived in stark contrast to their workers.

Throughout the tour, your guide brings this “city within a city” to life through vivid storytelling and fascinating anecdotes. You'll understand how Księży Młyn influenced urban planning, why British industrial towns inspired its layout, and how this district survived wars and economic collapse to become one of Łódź's most desirable areas.

The completely private format allows you to explore at your own pace, ask questions, and focus on your interests. Your guide can recommend the best cafes in former factory buildings and explain current revitalisation projects.
