What you can expect

  • “Discover Waiheke Island at your own pace on the Western Explorer Hop-On Hop-Off Bus, the most flexible and cost-effective way to experience the island's best wineries, beaches, restaurants and more.

    Your day starts with a scenic return ferry crossing from Auckland. Board the 9:00am Waiheke Walk-up ferry from Pier 11 or 12, City centre Ferry Terminal, for the 40-minute journey across the Hauraki Gulf. On arrival at Matiatia Ferry Terminal, hop straight onto the Western Explorer Hop-On Hop-Off Bus, departing at 10:00am.

    From there, the island is yours to explore. The bus loops through 16 stops on a scenic 80-minute circuit, taking in some of Waiheke's most loved vineyards, including Mudbrick, Cable Bay, Stonyridge and Batch, along with an olive oil tasting at Allpress, the boutique shops and galleries of Oneroa Village, and the golden sand and seaside cafes of Onetangi Beach. Hop off wherever catches your eye to explore at your own pace, whether that's a long lunch at a vineyard, a wander through a gallery, or an afternoon relaxing on the beach, then simply hop back on when you're ready to continue. Prefer to sit back and take it all in? Stay onboard for the full scenic loop and enjoy the ride.

    An on-board host is there to help you plan your day and share local tips on the best stops for your interests, and you can track your bus in real time using the Fullers360 app, so there's no standing around wondering when the next one will arrive.

    When you're ready to head home, ride the bus back to Matiatia Ferry Terminal and board the Waiheke Walk-up ferry from Pier 1 back to city centre Auckland.

    We recommend allowing at least half a day for the full experience, including the return ferry crossing. This tour operates Wednesday to Sunday from April to November, and daily from December to March. Bookings are essential, this is not a walk-up service. The tour does not operate on Christmas Day, ANZAC Day, Good Friday or Easter Sunday.
