Your guide will recount the storey of Efisio — his conversion, his martyrdom on this very shore, and the extraordinary procession held in his honour in Cagliari every year on the first of May, one of the most spectacular and deeply felt religious celebrations in Sardinia.
Then, Nora itself. Founded by the Phoenicians, developed by the Carthaginians and finally transformed by the Romans into one of their most prosperous provincial cities, Nora was inhabited continuously for over a thousand years before the sea gradually reclaimed its lower quarters. What remains is extraordinary — a Roman theatre still overlooking the sea, thermal baths with intact mosaic floors, temples, streets and houses — all set against a backdrop of turquoise water and golden sand that makes this one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Sardinia.
