Asuka was the capital of Japan in 1400. Today, Asuka is a peaceful place surrounded by mountains and fields, but it was once a bustling capital that served as the eastern terminus of the Silk Road. The bustle of the capital soon disappeared when it was relocated to another part of Nara, and was soon replaced by a peaceful rural landscape.
