This is a deeper dive into the plants of lei making. You’ll learn about beautiful, freshly-harvested native and introduced materials from the lei garden to create your own work to take with you. To start the morning, the friendly, experienced guides will take you on a tour of the lei garden. Smell, touch and learn about what is in bloom. Discover what makes these local plants so special and their role in the tradition of Hawaiian lei. Join the covered, outdoor lei table and explore a spread of freshly harvested greenery and flowers. You’ll learn the wili style of lei making, with more advanced techniques (we’re talking far beyond stringing orchids!) including braiding and more. You’ll finish the experience with your own, unique completed lei poʻo (head crown) created with the fresh plants you’ve discovered. Take beautiful photos in the garden and enjoy wearing your creation around the island.
