What you can expect

  • Discover a different side of Kyoto on an evening walk through its northern neighbourhoods. Your guide introduces yokai—the mysterious creatures and spirits of Japanese folklore—and the fears, beliefs and historical events behind stories of curses and vengeful spirits. No prior knowledge of Japanese folklore is needed.

    Explore Yokai Street and hear the legends associated with Daishogun Hachi Shrine, Kitano Tenmangu and Senbon Enmado. Learn how supernatural beliefs shaped the way people understood misfortune, death and protection. The experience combines historical context with traditional legends, rather than presenting folklore as verified events.

    Finish at Funaokayama Park with panoramic nighttime views across Kyoto. After the tour, your guide helps you find and catch a bus for your onward journey; bus fares are not included.

    Guests aged 7 and above are welcome. The stories focus on curses, supernatural folklore and dark history. Expect walking and stairs along the route. Dinner and transport fares are not included. Audio and video recording are not permitted.
