Start your day in Sannomiya or Motomachi, the city’s central districts. From here, walk to Meriken Park, a scenic waterfront area symbolising Kobe’s maritime identity. See the Kobe Port Tower, with its distinctive red lattice design, and the Kobe Maritime Museum, reflecting the city’s long history as one of Japan’s first international ports.

Nearby is Harborland, a lively shopping and dining district by the sea. The promenade offers beautiful harbour views and is especially pleasant in the morning when it’s quieter.

Next, head uphill to Kitano Ijinkan, the historic foreign residential area. This charming area features preserved Western-style houses built in the late 19th century, when Kobe opened to foreign trade. Walking through Kitano feels like stepping into Europe, with cafés, cobblestone streets, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the city.

End your day back at the harbour. As evening falls, Kobe Harborland transforms with illuminated buildings and reflections on the water. The atmosphere is romantic and calm, ideal for a seaside dinner or a casual café stop.

If you still have energy, enjoy the city lights from a nighttime Mount Rokko viewpoint—often called one of Japan’s best night views.
