Biratnagar

Your Kanchenjunga adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. Our team will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport. The flight takes around 35 to 45 minutes, offering great views of the southern plains of Nepal. Upon arrival at Biratnagar airport, we’ll transfer to a nearby hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can either relax after the flight or take a short tour of Biratnagar, one of Nepal’s major industrial and cultural hubs.
Day 2: Biratnagar to Mitlung (via Suketar) – 850m (Flight 15 min, Trek 6 hrs)

Suketar Airport

After an early breakfast, we head to the airport for a short domestic flight from Biratnagar to Suketar. This scenic 15-minute flight takes us closer to the Taplejung region, the starting point of our Kanchenjunga adventure. Suketar, a small airstrip nestled in the hills, welcomes us with cooler air and views of lush hillsides.

After landing, we begin our trek through terraced fields, vibrant forests, and traditional villages. The trail gradually descends and offers stunning views of the countryside. Along the way, we pass through small rural settlements, giving us our first taste of local culture and daily life in eastern Nepal. After approximately six hours of trekking, we reach Mitlung, a peaceful village surrounded by green hills and traditional farmland, where we settle in for the night.
Day 3: Mitlung to Chirwa (1,190m – 7 hrs)

Taplejung

After an early breakfast in Mitlung, we begin our trek towards Chirwa. The trail winds through dense forests, terraced farmlands, and scattered rural settlements, offering a blend of natural beauty and cultural insight. Along the way, we cross several small streams and rivers via suspension bridges, and navigate gradual ascents and descents across the hilly terrain.
The journey, which typically takes 5 to 7 hours, allows us to experience the daily life of the region’s ethnic communities. As we pass through various small villages, we’ll witness traditional houses and locals going about their daily routines. Upon arrival in Chirwa—a charming village nestled among hills—we check in at a local lodge. The people of Chirwa are known for their warm hospitality, making this a culturally rich and welcoming stop on our trek.
Day 4: Chirwa to Sekathum (1,640m – 6-7 hrs)

Tapethok

After breakfast, we begin our trek through beautiful terrain, gradually ascending through lush subtropical forests and traditional villages. We follow the trail along the banks of the Tamor River, eventually reaching Tapethok—a checkpoint where our trekking permits will be inspected. This segment offers scenic views of waterfalls, hanging bridges, and rich biodiversity.
Sekathum Bridge
From Tapethok, the trail becomes narrower and more dramatic as we enter deeper into the valley. We continue along the Ghunsa Khola, crossing suspension bridges and rocky paths before arriving in Sekathum. The village is beautifully located at the confluence of two rivers and surrounded by high hills, offering a peaceful stop for the night. We check into a local lodge and rest.
Day 5: Sekathum to Amjilosa (2,490m – 6-7 hrs)

As we ascend, the environment changes, and we notice different vegetation types adapting to the higher altitudes. The trail leads us into a serene valley surrounded by towering mountains, offering mesmerising vistas along the way. After about 6 hours of trekking, we arrive at Ghunsa, a remote and beautiful village nestled in the Himalayas. Here, we’ll settle into our accommodation and enjoy a restful evening.
Day 8: Ghunsa Rest and Acclimatisation Day

Today is dedicated to rest and acclimatisation as we are now at a higher altitude. This break is crucial to ensure our bodies adjust properly before continuing our ascent.
Take the opportunity to relax, read a book, meditate, or simply enjoy the tranquility of Ghunsa. It's essential to allow your body time to recover and adapt to the high elevation for a successful trek. To further aid in acclimatisation, we’ll also engage in light breathing exercises or yoga sessions, which can help your body adjust more comfortably to the altitude.
This day of rest will prepare us for the next stage of our journey.
Day 9: Trek to Kambachen (4,150m - 6 hours)

Kangbachen

After a hearty breakfast, we will embark on our trek to Kambachen. The trail starts by following the Ghunsa River and winds through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests. Along the way, we will catch glimpses of snow-capped peaks, adding to the scenic beauty of the journey.
As we continue, the trail gradually ascends towards a lush glacier valley. The landscape changes as we pass a waterfall and enter a landslide-prone area where we’ll need to exercise caution. After navigating these sections, we will reach Sele Le, a significant point on the trek offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
From Sele Le, we will descend towards the village of Kambachen. If we're fortunate, we may spot blue sheep or even snow leopards along the way. Kambachen will be our resting place for the night, where we can unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Day 10: Trek to Lhonak (4,790m - 5 hours)

Today’s trek takes us over the moraine from the Kanchenjunga Glacier, where we will walk uphill over massive stones. The views along this path are truly spectacular, with panoramic vistas on both sides of the trail. As we make our way through rugged terrain, we will eventually reach the Lhonak Glacier.
Continuing along the glacier, the landscape becomes even more dramatic, offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Since this area is known to be home to the elusive snow leopard, we’ll keep a lookout for this rare and majestic creature. After trekking for several hours, we will reach the village of Lhonak, where we’ll rest and find accommodation for the night.
Day 11: Trek to Pang Pema Base Camp (5,160m - 3 hours)

Today, we head south from Lhonak, following the Kanchenjunga Glacier. The trail traverses a rugged and challenging terrain, including moraines and glaciers, requiring careful navigation. As we ascend, the views continue to impress, with each step taking us closer to Pang Pema.
Upon reaching Pang Pema, we will be rewarded with magnificent views of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak. We will also enjoy the stunning sight of nearby peaks such as Wedge Peak and The Twins. After a long and rewarding trek, we’ll set up camp for the night and relax, soaking in the beauty of this remarkable location.
Day 12: Pang Pema Base Camp – Rest and Exploration Day

From here, it’s a steady 3–4 hour uphill trek past the Sherpa villages of Bung Kulung and Bhote Gaon. The path eventually brings us to Suketar, home to a small airstrip and our endpoint for the trek.
We’ll settle into a local hotel here and relax before continuing our journey back to Biratnagar the next day.
