Tamansari, meaning “beautiful garden,” was originally a royal garden complex of the Yogyakarta Palace, built gradually during the reign of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I. This historic site reflects the elegance and refined taste of Javanese royal architecture.

Covering more than 10 hectares, Tamansari consists of 57 unique structures, including elegant buildings, swimming pools, water canals, artificial lakes and islands, bridges, a mosque, and mysterious underground tunnels. Surrounded by flowing water and lush greenery, Tamansari is often known as the Water Castle, while its fragrant trees and blooming flowers have earned it the name The Fragrant Garden, offering visitors a truly enchanting cultural experience.
