Description

Experience the weekly Jewish tradition of Shabbat, the Day of Rest, as it unfolds in Jerusalem's ancient Old City. Explore the cobblestone streets and historic synagogues of the Jewish Quarter before sundown, and then visit the Western Wall as hundreds of people arrive to say their Shabbat prayers.

Meet your guide at Jaffa Gate, and pass through the 16th-century walls to enter the Old City. Once inside, get introduced to the different aspects of Orthodox Judaism as you stroll around the historic Jewish quarter. Navigate narrow alleys and cobblestone streets to reach the Hurva Synagogue, which was rebuilt after being destroyed in the 18th century. Then, learn about different expressions of Sephardic Judaism as you visit the Four Sephardic Synagogues, built during different time periods for congregations with unique rites.

As the sun sets, ushering in the start of Shabbat, make your way to the Western Wall. Considered sacred because of its proximity to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, this ancient retaining wall has been an important pilgrimage site for centuries. Watch as hundreds of observing Jews gather here to say their Shabbat prayers, acknowledging the start of the day of rest. After witnessing this important moment in the Jewish weekly calendar, part ways with your guide to continue exploring the Old City on your own.

The guide for this tour was extremely interesting and provided lots of good information. The walk itself was very easy to navigate and ended at the western wall. This was a worthwhile tour.

Very well done tour with great explainations. Anat was very cordial and attentive answering all questions. Unfortunately it was a bit cold because of the wind.
