Located at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus, Anadolu Fortress played a key role in Ottoman history. Built by Sultan Bayezid I in 1393–1394, it served as the Ottoman Empire’s first strategic foothold in Istanbul, designed to control the Bosphorus waters. Later, Sultan Mehmed II strengthened this strategy by building Rumeli Fortress on the opposite shore, paving the way for the historic Conquest of Constantinople in 1453.

The surrounding Anadolu Hisarı area is equally charming. Located beside the peaceful Göksu Creek, this scenic district was once a favourite retreat for poets and artists during the Tulip Era. Today visitors can stroll along the waterfront, explore historic streets, and experience one of the most tranquil corners of Istanbul.
