Sporty people master the 455 steps from the eastern stadium entrance to the Schanzenturm on foot. Alternatively, the driveway with an inclined lift is more comfortable and faster. The tower was designed by star architect Zaha Hadid plus features a panoramic restaurant Bergisel SKY and the viewing terrace 44 metres (143 feet) above the ground, which are easily accessed in a few minutes by two lifts.

The Bergisel is one of the more important venues in the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup, annually hosting the third competition of the prestigious Four Hills Tournament. This Olympic ski jump of 1964 and 1976 is a favourite of the locals as well.
