This day is a special activity dedicated to the ancient wisdom of knowing how to recognise and collect wild edible herbs. This wealth of knowledge was vital for our ancestors and has been rediscovered in times when it is necessary not only to vary our diet but also to draw on herbs and plants that have low levels of pollution and rich nutritional properties.
The activity is suitable for anyone who is able to walk on an easy trail and will take place on the slopes and between the high hamlets of Pialpetta (Val Grande di Lanzo-To) on an itinerary yet to be defined: it will be decided shortly based on seasonal conditions.
The excursion will take place at an altitude of 1200 m to 1700 m and will alternative between lessons on how to recognise and correctly gather herbs and periods of actual gathering of the most easily usable herbs. We will have a packed lunch in the meadows.
Difficulty: The trek involves a total change in altitude of around 450/500 m on excellent trails with moderate slopes, with a short, steeper section towards the end of the route. But the hike is simply an opportunity to identify and collect herbs! So there will be lots of stops.
However, hiking equipment, a packed lunch, hiking boots, a water bottle, and a hooded windbreaker are required. For collecting herbs, some bags, if possible made of bread paper (otherwise made of materbi, the biodegradable kind, to be clear), scissors, and gardening gloves. A notebook is useful for taking notes, and a camera is useful for taking home a photographic herbarium.
