What you can expect

Embark on a culinary adventure through Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam, where history and flavour meet. This walking food tour takes you across the iconic Truong Tien Bridge, into bustling local streets, and straight to the heart of Hue’s traditional cuisine. Guided by a local expert, you will taste authentic dishes and learn the fascinating stories behind them – from street food classics to royal-inspired desserts.
The tour begins at Hang Me Mẹ, a local favourite, where you will sample four traditional Hue cakes:
• Bánh Bèo (Water Fern Cakes): Soft rice cakes topped with dried shrimp, crispy pork skin, scallion oil, and a savoury dipping sauce.
• Bánh Nậm (Flat Steamed Rice Dumplings): Delicate rice flour dumplings filled with shrimp and lean pork, wrapped in banana leaves.
• Bánh Lọc (Shrimp & Pork Rice Dumplings): A chewy, flavourful cake wrapped in banana leaves, served with a uniquely salty fish sauce.
• Bánh Ram It: Sticky rice cakes with dried shrimp, fried to perfection for a crispy bottom layer.
Next, your taste journey continues at Cơm Hến Đập Đá, where you will enjoy Cơm Hến – a refreshing rice dish with small mussels, fresh herbs, peanuts, and a touch of fish sauce, representing the subtle flavours of Hue.
At Chè Huế, delight in a variety of Vietnamese sweet soups, featuring beans, coconut meat, taro, sweet potatoes, corn, and coconut milk – a perfect balance of textures and flavours.
The adventure continues at Quán Cẩm, where you will savour Bún Bò Huế, Hue’s iconic noodle soup with rich broth, tender beef, pork, and occasionally crab meat – a true culinary gem.
At Lạc Thiện Restaurant, indulge in Bánh Khoái, the No.1 Hue rice pancake. These golden, crispy pancakes are made from rice flour, shrimp, and pork, served with fresh vegetables and a savoury peanut sauce – a taste that has won the hearts of locals and travellers alike.
Finally, end the tour on a sweet note with Chè Cung Đình Huế, a royal dessert made from beans, sticky rice, banana, and tapioca balls. Served cold, it is a refreshing and sweet finale that captures the elegance of Hue’s culinary tradition.
