Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind

Hawa Mahal, is an iconic architectural marvel and a prominent tourist attraction in the city. Also known as the "Palace of Winds," it was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the ruler of Jaipur. The mahal was designed by Lal Chand Usta, an architect in the court of the Maharaja. Designed in the Rajput architectural style and is made of pink sandstone. The purpose behind the construction of Hawa Mahal was to provide a grandstand view for the royal ladies of the court to observe everyday life and processions on the bustling streets below without being seen themselves, as they followed strict purdah (veiling) customs. The design of Hawa Mahal is inspired by the crown of Lord Krishna. The windows not only allowed a gentle flow of air through the palace, keeping it cool during the scorching summer months, the interior of the Hawa Mahal is relatively simple, with a series of chambers and passages that were once used by the royal family.
Panna Meena ka Kund

"Panna Meena Ka Kund" is a stepwell also known as "baoris" or "vavs," are ancient water storage systems that were not only utilitarian but also served as gathering places and architectural wonders. Architecture: The stepwell is known for its unique and symmetrical architectural design. It consists of criss-crossing staircases that descend several levels into the ground, creating an elaborate pattern of steps. Water Source: Panna Meena Ka Kund was primarily built to harvest and store rainwater. During the monsoon season, the stepwell would collect rainwater, providing a reliable source of water for the local community throughout the year. Cultural significance: Panna Meena Ka Kund not only served as a water storage facility but also acted as a social gathering place for the local community. In the past, women would gather here to collect water and engage in social interactions.

Jal Mahal also known as the “Water Palace” is situated in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake, which is an artificial lake created in the 16th century to serve as a reservoir for the city. The palace was built during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh I of the Kachwaha dynasty in the 18th century. The palace's architecture is a fascinating combination of Rajput and Mughal styles. The building has five levels, with four submerged in water when the lake is full, leaving only the top floor visible.
