Magdalena Island

Set sail from Punta Arenas and navigate through the legendary Strait of Magellan to Magdalena Island, home to one of Chilean Patagonia’s most important colonies of Magellanic penguins. During the approximately 1.5-hour boat journey, bilingual guides will share information in English and Spanish about the region, its wildlife, and the penguins’ breeding season. Along the way, you may also spot austral dolphins, sea lions, seabirds, and occasionally sei whales. Additional wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Upon arrival, receive a briefing on the conservation rules established by CONAF before disembarking. Spend approximately one hour exploring the island along its designated trail and observing thousands of Magellanic penguins in their natural habitat. You may also see kelp gulls, cormorants, Chilean skuas, and other native seabirds. During the navigation, travellers may attend an optional talk about Magellanic penguins and their reproductive cycle.
