What you can expect

Experience the remarkable diversity of Ķemeri National Park on a guided hike through two contrasting wetland ecosystems.

Begin at the famous Great Ķemeri Bog, where you will follow the boardwalk through one of Latvia’s largest raised bogs and a protected habitat of European importance. Your expert nature guide will reveal how this ancient landscape formed, why carnivorous plants thrive here, how wildlife adapts to these conditions and why bogs matter for biodiversity.

The Great Ķemeri Bog is rewarding in every season: vibrant blooms in spring, lush greenery in summer, warm golden tones in autumn and quiet, frost-covered beauty in winter.

The tour then continues on the Sloka Lake Nature Trail. Its main highlight is the remarkable black alder swamp forest, one of the most distinctive wetland habitats in Ķemeri National Park. You will also discover Sloka Lake, the winding Vēršupīte River, and old mixed pine and spruce forests.

Throughout the experience, enjoy a relaxed, interactive guiding style inspired by improvisation, where the tour naturally adapts to the group, the season and changing conditions in nature.

Seasonal note: The black alder swamp forest is most impressive during high-water periods, typically in April–May and again from late September through October, when parts of the forest become flooded. Outside these periods, the trail remains lush, green and rewarding throughout the hiking season.
