Description

Explore sites scattered along the Dardanelles as you go back in time to learn about the Gallipoli Campaign, World War I, and the Anzac forces. Check out memorials, battle sites, and cemeteries that pay tribute to both sides and listen to commentary about the war from your experienced guide.

Catch a lift from your Istanbul hotel and head to the waterfront, where you can board a spacious vessel for a scenic cruise down the Dardanelles. As you sail, listen to your guide set the stage by recounting the events leading up to the Gallipoli Campaign, which pitted Anzac forces against the Ottoman Empire for control of this strategic waterway.

Grab lunch when you reach Canakkale, and then head to Anzac Cove to see the beaches where the Allies made a foothold for early land campaigns. Pay tribute to the lives lost during these early battles at nearby cemeteries including Beach Cemetery, Quinn's Post, and the Nek. Hear about the Gallipoli Campaign's legacy at memorials dedicated to Australian, New Zealand, and English forces, and examine the Ottoman side with stops at the Turkish War Memorial before you hop on board an air-conditioned coach for your return drive to Istanbul.

This is a super long day but worth it if it is your only chance to see it. Our guide was wonderful and the communication with our travel agent and the tour company was spot on.

Great tour company specialising in Gallipoli and surrounds (such as Troy). Knowledgeable tour guides with sensitivity towards western tourists only stating the facts (rather than expressing one view towards the Turkish campaign and taking sides). Note the tour is via a comfortable bus (round trip), rather than via an initial cruise to Gallipoli, as stated on the tour description. Also the nice lunch upon arrival to Gallipoli is sufficient enough, comprising of a nice starter (great home made soup), followed by a meat ball / kofta with rice and some side green salad. Highly recommended to pay respects to both the ANZACs, but also the Turkish. Both interlocked by war, but treating each other with high respects.

This was a brilliant day trip, albeit a very long one. The bus trip was 5 hours there and 5 hours back but learning about the ANZACs and my history was well worth it and to also pay my respects to these soldiers who sacrificed soo much for us. Gallipoli and ANZAC cove were beautiful areas of Turkey
