    Begin at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, the head shrine of approximately 12,000 Tenmangu shrines across Japan. Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning and culture, this serene sanctuary features a stunning vermilion main hall, the legendary “Flying Plum” tree, and the picturesque Taiko Bridge spanning a heart-shaped pond. Stroll the lively approach street and sample freshly baked Umegae Mochi, a local speciality.
    Next, experience the Beppu Ropeway on Mount Tsurumi. The 1,816-meter cable car ascends to 1,375 metres in roughly 10 minutes, offering breathtaking 360° panoramic views of Beppu Bay, the city below, and the surrounding volcanic peaks. At the summit, explore observation decks, scenic walking trails, and a cosy tea house. (Ropeway fare: Adult ¥1,800 / Child ¥900 / Senior 70+ ¥1,700 — not included in tour price.)
    In the afternoon, immerse yourself in Yufuin Onsen Town, one of Japan's most beloved hot spring destinations. Wander along Yunotsubo Street, a charming pedestrian lane lined with artisan shops, dessert cafés, and craft stores. Then visit Kinrin Lake, where warm spring water meets cold groundwater, creating a mystical morning mist that has made this lake one of Yufuin's most photographed landmarks. The serene lake beautifully reflects the silhouette of Mount Yufu.
