Even the first settlers had already discovered the 2,280-foot (695-meter) peak for themselves. One of the few springs here rises from the rock at an altitude of 1,509 feet (460 metres) above sea level.
In the past, these places were considered sacred because the spring ensured the survival of both humans and animals. This is evidenced by the numerous bone remains found in the area, which now provide insights into life long before the island was conquered. The view stretching to the southern tip of Punta Jandía and the magnificent panorama over the little-known hinterland are truly impressive. The destination of the hike is the Chapel of Our Lady of El Tanquito, which you will reach after an hour. Every year at the beginning of June, the procession of the Virgin is held here, and hundreds of locals celebrate their patron saint.
