Discover the beauty of Kolkheti National Park and Georgia’s stunning Black Sea coastline on a guided tour from Kutaisi. Explore the Nokalakevi Fortress, visit the ruins of Shkhepi Fortress, discover the coastal city of Poti, and take a scenic walk through the forest to the beautiful Golden Lake.
We start our journey in Kutaisi and head to our first destination, the Nokalakevi Archaeological Museum. The archaeological complex was once a major fortified city and served as the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lazica (Egrisi) between the 4th and 8th centuries AD.
Next, we stop at the beautiful ruins of Shkhepi Fortress. Take a short and easy walk through the surrounding landscape to reach the fortress and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and views of the area.
Afterwards, we continue to Poti, one of the most important cities on Georgia’s Black Sea coast.
Poti is a major port city located where the Rioni River meets the Black Sea. Often nicknamed “Little Paris,” the city is known for its unique 19th-century radial layout, with streets extending from the central area around Poti Cathedral. Poti is also one of Georgia’s major seaports and an important regional trade hub connecting Georgia with neighbouring countries, including Armenia and Azerbaijan.
During our visit, your guide will show you some of Poti’s most notable landmarks, including Poti Cathedral, Poti Lighthouse, and Niko Nikoladze Tower. You will also have time to take a short lunch break before continuing to our final destination.
We then head to Golden Lake, located near Poti. Take a peaceful walk through the forest and experience the natural beauty of Kolkheti National Park. Cross a bridge over the lake and explore a small abandoned village that was built when Poti hosted the European Water Skiing Championship.
If you wish, you can also enjoy an amazing boat ride on the lake. The area is sometimes described by visitors as the “Amazon of Europe” because of its unique wetlands and lush natural surroundings. Please note that the boat ride is available only during the warm season and depends on weather and local conditions.
After enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Kolkheti and the Black Sea coast, we begin our journey back to Kutaisi.
Please note that entrance fees are required for Niko Nikoladze Tower and Nokalakevi Fortress.
